The Deathstars!
A long dark chat...

There's nothing we like more than having a chat with amazing new rock bands, and if the band look like the stars of a goth porno flick, then so much the better...

Hello then, the Deathstars, damp and delighted after their recent show at London's Kentish town forum. Scuzz slid onto a tatty old sofa with the fearsome foursome and attempted to batter some sense outta the boys

Hello Deathstars! What on earth were you doing down on your knees during the performance?

Bone W Machine:
He Likes being down on his knees!

Whiplasher: Yeah, Ill get down on my knees for you anytime

Steady on chaps, we've got an interview to get through first... Lets talk live show. What's your favourite track to play on stage?

Whiplasher: I dont know Any, I guess. We just like playing our musicwhatever song it is.

If you're not fussy about the song, what about the venue? Played anywhere amazing recently?

Whiplasher: That has to be New York Stadium. Well, we havent actually played there, we just want to! We played the Astoria a couple of times in 2003, with Paradise Lost. That was pretty good.

You have made some seriously hard core videos. Do the twisted vids come from your own minds?

Whiplasher: Its collaboration between the Director and the band. We write the song, then explain what the song is about and that gets sent to companies who make music videos Then we sort through the ideas of what they wanna do, and then we make it

Sounds simple. So please explain the babies crawling up the womans body in the 'Synthetic' video

Whiplasher: Indifference, the whole song is about indifference. It has nothing to do with abortion!

Bone W Machine: Yeah, so many people keep saying that!

Skinny: But its got nothing to do with it!

Whiplasher: Its a political thing...

Bone W Machine: And hallucination.

Whiplasher: It's about Western values, First generation finding values and recreating yourself

Nightmare Industries: Cancer in mankind.

Bone W Machine: Three tumours in the form of babieslike your passions

Your building our expectations for your next release, so any hints on what we can expect?

Whiplasher: We're thinking of a White wedding cover... We know the Murderdolls did that, but didnt make it that big with it. We would do it and make it a hit!

So who influences the Deathstars? (We're guessing not the Murderdolls)

Whiplasher: Robbie Williams (Cue much laughter) No, actually, You!

Please behave! We are strict professionals! Is there anyone you'd like to work with?

Whiplasher: No, really, I dont know. Its all about black metal and the roots of metal. We like to glamorise death

(Gulp) And why is that exactly?

Whiplasher: Because we can take it to the extreme and we wanna tell a story of progression and what cant develop - black versus white.

Why did you decided to cultivate the sexually gothic image you are gaining a reputation for?

Whiplasher: We dont contribute to our image.

Bone W Machine: We are told 'your image is Marilyn Manson, you are Marilyn Manson, a visual mimic.' But we are not. We are Kiss fans, and we have been doing this since 1991.

So were guessing that your image is not as important to you as the music you play...

Whiplasher: Exactly. It's about our music. We never make any messages in our music Our music is all about affecting our weak side - that when we glamorise it we make strength. Its a very primitive concept. Instead of making black or death metal, we put the nightclub into it. We make Death Disco.

That's one disco we wanna make sure we get invited to!

So long then... The Deathstars
